An angel leaned in and cast his light upon me.

You know that feeling—
when you fight so hard for a chance,
only to watch it vanish in the very next breath?
He had already said yes.
And still, she passed me by.
I was upset—but not surprised.
I’ve learned how quickly things slip from hands that held them tightly,
how often something mine becomes something lost.
Still—he saw me.
And he did not give up on me.
He got me another chance!
For the first time in my life,
someone gave me a chance.
And I didn’t fail him.
My words reached him—
My mother and probably a few others.
My sister's reaction warmth me deeply.
"Sis, someone actually 'took care' of you!"
This other man sitting in-front of me,
nearly seventy, tears.
“Your words reminded me of the love I had for my mother,” he said.
“She was ninety-eight.”
And in that moment,
something stayed—
instead of being taken away.
I felt it—
the faint,
fragile beating
of my heart long buried.
Is my life—
my luck—
finally beginning to breathe—
again?

Never give up, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn." — Harriet Beecher Stowe
